Its that time of the day again – yet more Japanese brilliance. My last post on a Jap-Architect genereated an excellent (not to mention out-of-context) comment featuring Tentacle Porn. Something which I’ve recently looked into and decided it isn’t for me. I’ll stick with Architecture.
On to today though, and Sou Fujimoto’s N-House in Oyta, Japan is a brilliant House within a House, completely blurring what is inside and out and creating some very peacful looking spaces. Not sure how comfy it’d be to live in, but I wouldn’t mind finding out. Lovely stuff.

There’s many reasons to be jealous of young ‘un Joey L. First and foremost, he’s an amazing photographer. On top of that, he’s traveled the globe taking photos. He’s photographed lots of bands and pretty models to. Asides from having a great eye for a picture, he’s technically superb to. AND, he’s 18! All this would make you sick if he didn’t appear to be such a bloody nice bloke. Definitely worth checking out his website and his tutorials (generous to!).

Joey L, well done.

I’m not going to go on and on about how wonderful the Japanese are, how much I’d like to go there, how their designers are amongst the most innovative and exciting in the world. Talk about all the gadgets and how great sushi is. I’m not even going to talk about Lost in Translation.
We all know they’re the best. You know it. She knows it. Bill Murray knows it.
Takeshi Hosaka architects have been getting a bit of attention for a while now, and quite rightly so. Top quality stuff. Really rational, but with great elements of fun. Very minimal and white, but quite tactile and livable. Well into it.

No Takeshi’s Castle jokes either.
Takeshi Hosaka, nice work friend.

I’ve already posted something before (a long time before) about the Shanghai Expo, here’s another pavilion to rival the Polish one. The expo is shaping up to be a little belter. It’d be great if anyone actually knew what it was for, but it is nice to see people doing fun buildings with little constraints. Makes a change from talking about the credit crunch.
The Dannish Pavillion is by BIG, in association with Arup and 2+1

The idea is that people grab a bike at the entrance and ride it around the ramped runways. They could even take a dip in the pool in the middle – filled with genuine Copenhagen water, or admire the Little Mermaid Statue – a massively recognisable statue in the city. Its the actual statue! Being transported from Copenhagen. BIG designer Bjarke Ingels, brilliantly said “it is considerably more resource efficient moving The Little Mermaid to China, than moving 1.3 billion Chinese to Copenhagen”.
Quite right.

Top stuff.
Seen on excellent Architecture Blog, Arch Daily. Nice one BIG.

Most of the time, when I see something from someone from Brighton I am immediately more interested. Sometimes, I look at it and am disappointed because sometimes its just another person in Brighton taking “gritty” photos of the graffiti by the Argus Lofts or something.
SOMETIMES, though, its amazing.
As is the case with David Wilson’s fantastic cardboard creations, spotted on very good blog It’s Nice That.
Ta-da…

Enjoy. Peace.
