At-At Boombox

February 25

Following on from my recent spat of “I don’t really love Star Wars, but this is pretty cool” posts (which can be seen here and here), here be another one (I’ll try and make it my last, but as long as people keep designing stuff like this, I’m going to keep blogging about it). It’s a flipping well cool At-At Boombox. I’d love one, especially if it were radio controlled. For some reason it makes me think it should be in a Beck video possibly.

I can’t really tell you a great deal about it. A short bit of research didn’t yield much info. Something to do with these guys.

Neo Gramophone

February 20

This beautiful bit of folded high quality materials is the new design by Lars Amhoff, out of Kinkyform, called the Neo Gramophone.

It’s an update of the traditional gramophone shape, that uses modern technology to yield a top-notch sound quality via itunes streaming or music loaded onto it via bluetooth. The base holds all the info and a nice sub and the trumpet, growing out of the base, is a speaker. Kinkyform are currently looking for investors to push this idea forward and to develop it in such away that quality can be maintained whilst keeping it in a non-luxury price range. Huzzah!

I’d buy one.

Jazz Talk

February 13

I’m no big jazz fan man. I like some of the older stuff. But I don’t love it. Also, the fact that Jamie Cullum is the biggest selling Jazz artist ever irks me a little. But real jazz, its OK. What I am a fan of though is this piece of advice given by Thelonious Monk to Steve Lacey. It’s absolutely fascinating to read.

“Whatever you think can’t be done, somebody will come along + do it

“They tried to get me to hate white people, but someone would always come along + spoil it”

Thelonious Monk

Found this last week on Eric Alba’s blog, which I’ve only just discovered. Nice.
